Powered by TRANSMIXR,a European-funded project, Spatial Media is an ecosystem built by Immersion.The platform consists of servers and applications (such as video productionsoftware, automation software, streaming software, rendering pipelines, NDI andOSC pipelines, communication platforms, and Unity applications) that buildbridges and interface with multiple hardware components (like volumetriccameras, 360° cameras, computers, XR headsets, and web apps). For a basic setup, theecosystem consists of servers running dedicated software that connects all thecomponents. You will need two high-performance PCs to run the servers andautomation systems. Four volumetric cameras, each with a dedicated PC, will capturethe necessary data, while a master PC compiles the information. A 360-cameraconnected to fast internet and a spatial microphone are also required. Thedirector will use an XR headset to control the show, while the crew will needXR headsets or touch interfaces to perform their tasks. Yes! Spatial Media isoptimized for live spatial streaming, but it also allows mixing live andpre-recorded content. You can stream episodes with either fully live or fullypre-recorded content. How you choose to use the platform is entirely up to you!
TheSpatial Media server application has a dedicated portal for crew members toupload custom scenery and 3D assets as needed. For 2D and audio assets, you canupload and edit them within the running order software and its automationsystem. The only content you won't upload directlyinto the platform are the 360 live stream and the live volumetricrepresentation, which will rely on your crew’s expertise in framing and setup.
